John Muir Elementary in Glendale, California, is losing our Principal, Linda Junge as of July 1, 2013. Dr. Junge is going on the Crescenta Valley High School, and I wish her the very best. She has been a good principal, very caring, easy to get along with, and concerned about her students.
Because we are losing our principal, a robocall, an automatic call, was made by Dr. Junge, and she announced her leaving, and that a special meeting would be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 in the cafeteria at John Muir Elementary, led by the Superintendent Richard Sheehan. Parents were also urged to email Superintendent Sheehan with their ideals for a principal.
With a student body of over 800 children, and approximately 700 parents, you would think that the cafeteria would be packed! Not so. I was one of 7 parents who attended the meeting. It was a good meeting. The ideals which had been emailed were read to those who came, about 20 ideas. That still brings the total to about 30 parents who were concerned enough about their children's school to make some kind of response.
That is pathetic! It reminds me of the walk on May 4, 2010 at GUSD, where I wrote Glendale GUSD Parents – I am ashamed. If you don't remember, it was to voice our concern about teachers getting the pink slip, and larger class sizes. Not many parents participated in that either.
Truly, I say to you if you don't voice your wants and opinions, don't come whining when little Johnny can't read. If you want things to change, you have to take action.
